Healthy Tailgating Tips

  • Eat a healthy snack before leaving for the ball game. You'll be less likely to fill up on poor food choices when you get there. Try an apple with light string cheese.
  • Eat from a plate instead of “nibbling” or “grazing”. This makes it easier to keep track of what and how much you are eating.
  • Set an alcoholic beverage limit and stick to it.
  • Stay hydrated by bringing a refillable water bottle. Add fruit slices for a little flavor.
  • Bring your own healthier food choices:
    • Hummus for a whole grain cracker spread
    • Low-fat plain Greek yogurt with seasoning for dipping vegetables
    • Berries, melon, pineapple and grapes in a bowl
    • Lean ground meat for burgers
    • Chicken sausage
    • Grilled shrimp kabobs with mango and guacamole
    • Salsa instead of cheese sauce
    • Whole wheat buns
    • DIY trail mix with whole grain cereal, dark chocolate, and dried cherries
    • Fruit leathers
    • Salad
    • Popcorn sprinkled with parmesean
  • Play some games! Bag toss and ladder ball will get you moving.
