Inpatient Rehabilitation

Our Specialized Team Helps You Regain Independence

If you or a loved one is hospitalized for a cardiac, orthopedic, medical/post-surgical, neurological or other medical reason your physician may order rehabilitation during your inpatient stay to aid in your recovery and prepare you for a safe discharge. Inpatient rehabilitation is provided in your room or in rehabilitation areas within the hospital by physical, occupational and/or speech therapists.

Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Units are managed by Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group and Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Institute (SHRI) physiatrists. Physiatrists are physicians who are experts in functional rehabilitation, pain management and the unique circumstances created by longer-term rehabilitative care. They work very closely with a specially designed team of rehabilitation experts, including:

  • Social workers
  • Speech language pathologists
  • Therapeutic recreation specialists
  • Other specialists, such as a pastoral care representative and psychologist

This interdisciplinary team collaborates to analyze skills that need improvement and creates a unique plan that will help you regain independence and confidence.
