Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Launches New Website Offering Optimal User Experience from Any Device

MILWAUKEE, WI (February 13, 2014) — Today, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare announced the launch of its new website using responsive design principles offering visitors an optimal user experience. Wheaton partnered with Geonetric, a leading online solutions provider for the healthcare industry, to build the website. It is the first fully responsive health care system website in Southeast Wisconsin connecting patients and other visitors to the wide range of services available across the entire health care system using their preferred device – desktop, tablet or mobile.

“Nearly 30 percent of all of website visitors access the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare website using tablets and mobile phones. Wheaton now offers these visitors an optimal experience whether at home or on-the-go,” says Jaimie Somlai, Director – Digital Marketing, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. “The growing number of mobile site visitors dictated the need for enhancing how we connect with our patients and the community we serve. We chose Geonetric as a strategic partner to improve functionality and restructure our site in way that allows Wheaton to better respond to our community’s needs.”

Wheaton’s new website is built on Geonetric's VitalSite® content management system (CMS) and uses responsive design, which means the website automatically rearranges content based on the screen size of the site user’s browsing device.

“Wheaton is a forward-thinking healthcare organization,” says Eric Engelmann, president and CEO of Geonetric. “The new responsive website is a testament to the fact they are approaching mobile strategically. We’re proud to work with organizations like Wheaton that understand how online technology can help them connect with their patients and communities.”

In addition to the use of responsive design, the site offers overall improved functionality including provider locations and service directories, an enhanced educational and community events calendar with on-line registration capabilities, clinical trial information, a health library, Google Translate - an instant translation service for dozens of languages, and numerous forms including online pre-registration for hospital birthing centers. In addition, Wheaton and Geonetric worked together to restructure the site’s information architecture to better connect patients to the wide range of services available across the medical group and the entire health care system while still making it easy to find those resources close to home.

With seven hospital sites and numerous outpatient centers and medical group locations in Southeast Wisconsin, Wheaton was able to take advantage of VitalSite’s sophisticated FlexFilter technology. FlexFilter allows the organization to enter information just once and select the specific places it should appear. For example, Wheaton keeps all provider information in one central repository but site administrators can easily dictate which doctors are associated with which location.

Somlai added, “The new website strengthens the health care system’s reputation for innovation and compassionate, patient-centered care.”
