St. Joseph is Recognized for Commitment to Its Central City Neighborhood

Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus was recently recognized for a 2015 Milwaukee Business Journal’s Central City Business Award.

St. Joseph was honored in the community impact category, which features Milwaukee-area businesses and individuals who are committed to supporting growth and prosperity in a central city area. The program is designed to recognize the important contributions businesses and individuals are making to generate positive momentum in driving new innovations for much-needed jobs and commercial expansion in central city areas in southeast Wisconsin.

As a major employer in Milwaukee’s central city, St. Joseph actively pursues and develops a diverse workforce through programs such as School at Work, ADN to BSN Scholarship Program for Nurses of Color, and youth programs through a partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools, including School to Work and the Youth Apprenticeship Program.

As a resident of the neighborhood, St. Joseph is a committed participant in neighborhood revitalization efforts, including the Milwaukee Rising housing revitalization initiative to rehabilitate foreclosed properties for sale to responsible homeowners, and funding for Project SAFE, which promoted safety awareness and implemented several crime prevention initiatives.

St. Joseph also offers a plethora of initiatives to improve the health and wellness of residents, including the Safe Place for Newborns initiative, the Unity in the Community health empowerment event, diabetes education through community education and partnership with local African American churches, and sponsorship of a summer Concerts in the Park music series.
