Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – St. Francis has opened a $29.9 million, 80,000 square foot outpatient center that focuses on neurology services.

The center is conveniently located on the campus of the hospital at 3237 S. 16th Street in Milwaukee with easy access for patients with mobility issues. It houses services for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients, rehabilitation, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, a sleep lab and a clinic to facilitate infusion therapies for patients with auto-immune neurological disorders.

Bhupendra Khatri, MD, and Varun Saxena, MD, have relocated their private practices in the outpatient center. These premier neurologists bring years of experience with neurological disorders to St. Francis. Dr. Khatri has one of the largest MS practices in the country with more than 4,000 patients. He is internationally recognized for his expertise and therapeutic research in Multiple Sclerosis. He serves at Medical Director of the Center for Neurological Disorders.

Dr. Saxena is nationally recognized for his expertise in state-of-the-art stroke management and research.

“We welcome back two of the area’s premier neurologists,” said Dan Mattes, President of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s Central Market, which includes St. Francis, Franklin Hospital and Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital. “Our vision is to establish St. Francis as a leader in neurology by achieving the best possible outcomes and patient satisfaction with cutting edge research and procedures.”

Said Dr. Khatri: “It is important to offer our patients a comprehensive approach to treating their neurological disorders because it affects so many aspects of their lives. We are now able to provide all of their services under one roof.”

Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive neurological disorder that attacks the central nervous system. Its debilitating effects decrease a patient’s ability to walk, talk and think clearly. Approximately one in 1,000 people suffer from this disorder nationally, with statewide statistics representing an even higher percentage.
