Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group Moves to Epic for its Electronic Health Record & Patient Portal

More than 200 Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group and Metro Physicians’ offices in Southeast Wisconsin have moved to a new Electronic Health Record, EpicCare Ambulatory, developed by Madison-based Epic. Earlier this year, Covenant Clinic, Wheaton’s medical group in eastern Iowa, became the first part of the organization to utilize EpicCare Ambulatory within its practices. EpicCare Ambulatory replaces Horizon Ambulatory Care, which was implemented more than five years ago in Wheaton physician offices in Southeast Wisconsin and Iowa.

EpicCare Ambulatory provides the latest in electronic health record management tools customized for the physician clinical setting, and our physicians are excited to have this technology at their fingertips,” said Dr. Rita Hanson, Interim Chief Medical Officer, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

The Epic transition includes the integration of Wheaton MyChart, a safe, online patient portal where patients can access and manage their health information at their convenience. Through Wheaton MyChart, patients will be able to request appointments, review their medical history treatment plans, and request prescription refills from their computer or select smart phones.

“MyChart is a great tool that will strengthen our physician/patient relationships and support our medical experts to help our patients achieve better health outcomes,” said Dr. Hanson.
