Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – St. Francis has received Atrial Fibrillation Certification, which means that the team at St. Francis has demonstrated a high level of expertise when it comes to assessing and treating patients with Atrial Fibrillation (or afib), a common cardiac arrhythmia that is known to lead to stroke and possible death.

According to the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, hospitals with this certification evaluate and manage afib patients more effectively and improve patient outcomes for this disease.

“Patients can be extremely confident when going to St. Francis that they will be assessed for Atrial Fibrillation and treated according to best practice protocols," says Dr. Charles Lanzarotti, Medical Director of Electrophysiology for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. "Going through this year-long certification process shows the strong commitment St. Francis has to providing the best possible medical treatment to patients with this condition.”

Nearly three million patients in the United States have atrial fibrillation and the numbers are rapidly increasing as our population ages.
