Navigate the Holidays the Healthy Way

It's easy to let the rush of the holiday season impact your health. From attending and hosting parties to gift shopping and wrapping, follow these tips to ensure you can enjoy every holiday celebration this year.

Eat Healthy When You’re on the Go

  • It's important to plan ahead to avoid fast food and high sugar and carbohydrate fixes.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
  • Remember that everything is better in moderation – watch portion sizes, load up on fruits and vegetables and keep healthy, quick snacks at your fingertips like yogurt and string cheese.

Avoid Injuries

The most common injuries that people experience around the holidays are neck and lower back strain, which can be caused by a number of things:

  • Stress - Manage your stress as best you can by stretching before a long day of shopping, prioritizing and planning ahead for upcoming events.
  • Shopping - Keep things comfortable and wear shoes with extra cushion to absorb the impact of walking, drop off shopping bags at the car when they become heavy and shop online if possible.
  • Gift Wrapping - Use proper techniques and wrap presents at an elevated table instead of on the floor.

Don't Forget the Basics

  • Get your flu shot.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Don't neglect chronic diseases or adjust current medications for social events.
