Mission Possible: Associates Help with Fundraising Efforts
Mission Possible is a way for associates to give back to their favorite Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Foundation or community organization. While not all pledges have been tallied yet, southeastern Wisconsin associates have raised over $400,000 since September.
Some of the services that have received funding include the Safe Sleep program at Wheaton Franciscan - St. Joseph Campus, Safe Place for Newborns, Patient Safety Fund at Midwest Spine and Orthopedic Hospital and Wisconsin Heart Hospital, and Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Care at Elmbrook Memorial.
One of our priority funds for St. Joseph is our Emergency Department (ED), which is the busiest in the state with more than 85,000 visits annually. To combat the rising numbers, associates are working to reduce ED visits by connecting patients to primary care physicians with the help of case managers. Ellen, a 52-year-old patient, came to the ED to refill her blood pressure medication. Ellen did not have a primary care physician nor did she have insurance. The care management team connected her with a physician, made an appointment, and educated Ellen on her heart issue. The outpatient pharmacist refilled her blood pressure medication assuring her that she had enough medication until her physician appointment. Two days later, Ellen kept her physician appointment. She was counseled on smoking cessation, was offered a free mammogram, and her prescriptions were refilled. “I was just so happy to have all this help,” she said. Since being connected with a primary care physician, Ellen has not been back to the ED.
This is just one of many funds supported by Wheaton associates. It should also be noted that our associates constantly volunteer in our community. From assisting at walks/runs, sorting food at food pantries, adopting a highway and collecting school supplies for children in need, our associates consistently give back in many ways.
Together, we make our community stronger, healthier, better.
