City Slickers: Hit the Jackpot

City Slickers began 12 years ago when Dr. David Sherman, a radiation oncologist and medical director of Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus, and his wife Eileen wanted to support cancer services in a fun and unique way. They opened their Mequon farm, held a dress down gala, and City Slickers was born.

Since that time we've kept City Slickers casual, fun and always unique. Held in airplane hangars, car dealerships and gymnasiums, this year's event did not disappoint!

Deb and Dave StandridgeOn Sept. 12, "City Slickers: Hit the Jackpot" attendees were all winners with an unforgettable night of '60s Las Vegas fun, food and entertainment. Nearly 400 attendees packed Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in support of our brave cancer patients. Attendees were treated to a delectable dinner and performances by the Rat Pack and magician David Seebach, who also served as the evening's Master of Ceremonies.

The surprise of the night occurred when Wheaton Franciscan – North Market President Deb Standridge performed a song and dance number alongside her husband, Dave Standridge. The song and dance, "Buck$$ Are What We’re Raisin’," was complete with a kick line made up by members of our cancer care team. This performance was most definitely the highlight of the night!

City Slickers: Hit the Jackpot grossed over $135,000, and all of the proceeds will benefit Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Care patients.

We thank all of those who helped make City Slickers a huge success, especially event chairs Valerie Johnson and Dennis Robison.
