Advanced Stroke Technology Now Available at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – St. Francis

As one of the most progressive stroke care providers in metro Milwaukee, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - St. Francis recently opened a new interventional radiology biplane suite. This new technology allows interventional radiologists the ability to navigate through the brain to locate and treat blockages, brain aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations.

The biplane system produces highly detailed three-dimensional views of blood vessels leading to the brain and deep within the brain, improving visualization for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. For many patients, an interventional radiology procedure can replace a traditional procedure, resulting in a shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery time, reduced pain and reduced risk of complications.

Demand for stroke care is on the rise. Research shows that stroke will be one of the top five neurological diseases in the next 10 years. With the addition of a state-of-the-art neurointerventional biplane imaging suite, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - St. Francis has complete resources to greatly advance the diagnosis and treatment capabilities for vascular and neurovascular conditions. These services allow St. Francis to provide an enhanced level of patient care.

Quick Action is Required if a Stroke is Suspected

Biplane technology offers the innovative care that patients need for treatment of the acute stroke because Time is Brain:

  • Two million brain cells die every minute during a stroke.
  • When brain cells die during a stroke, abilities controlled by that area of the brain are lost.
  • It's important to act FAST when a stroke is suspected.
