To help prepare for the predicted shortage of health care professionals, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare reaches out to young people to show them what’s available and support them in their career aspirations.
St. Thomas More High School scholarships: Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and the Foundation for St. Francis and Franklin provided 10 students tuition scholarships in the Biomedical Sciences program. With plans to pursue health care careers, these bright students also participate in job shadowing and hospital tours to better understand health career opportunities.
Elmbrook Memorial’s Medical Explorers program offers high school students the opportunity to learn from doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and specialists through first-hand experiences in medical career opportunities.
Health Youth apprentice program: All Saints started the “Highlighting Health Care” aimed at building awareness for careers in health care amongst high school students. The All Saints program is known as a model for apprenticeship programs.
Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare scholarship fund for UW-Milwaukee Health Sciences students: We provide both undergraduate and graduate scholarships for students enrolled in the UW-Milwaukee College of Health Sciences.
Black College tour – Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare sponsored several MPS students at Riverside University High school to participate in a tour of historically black colleges and universities. Students were able to tour the college, learn about admissions, and receive information beneficial to helping them pursue a college education.
National Black Nurses Association/Milwaukee Chapter tuition scholarships: Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare has been a long-time sponsor of undergraduate and graduate scholarships for several members of the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association.
All Saints Health Care Education scholarships: The Nursing Scholarship Program is working to positively impact nurse recruitment, retention, and satisfaction. Scholarships allow entry-level hospital associates to pursue a nursing career despite limited resources. Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints’ School of Radiologic Technology is also working to provide endowed scholarships for worthy individuals in the fast-growing field of radiology.
