Community Impact

Providing Exceptional and Compassionate Health Care to All At Wheaton Franciscan – Wisconsin Heart Hospital Campus, we are committed to following the example of St. Francis of Assisi who taught us to reach out to our community to console, comfort, and heal. And we do so with an undying spirit of compassion. Every day we witness firsthand the growing needs of the underserved, the sick, and the elderly in the communities we serve. We are committed to meeting those needs through a number of programs.

In fact, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s total benefit to the community in fiscal year 2011 was $148.4 million including $29.3 million in charity care (actual cost of providing that care). Click here to read the 2011 Annual Report.

Services for the underserved
The Wisconsin Heart Hospital is an active participant in the continued assessment and implementation of advanced cardiovascular research, diagnostic, treatment, prevention, and aftercare models. As part of the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare system, we are committed to living out the healing ministry of Jesus and work to bring our specialized expertise to all who need it.

We offer a charity care program called Community Care to assist qualified individuals in financial need. If you receive medically necessary care and show financial need but do not qualify for other financial assistance programs, you may apply for financial assistance through Community Care. Participants must meet requirements for assets, home equity, and income relative to family size. Click here to see our entire policy.

Promoting health in our communities
Wisconsin Heart Hospital Campus is an active partner with local community organizations. We partner with the Milwaukee County Zoo to present the annual Ride on the Wild Side each fall, and Wauwatosa National Night Out in August. We are also a sponsor of the Wauwatosa Historical Society's annual Blarney Run.

We also provide valuable life-saving skills through our CPR certification classes. In addition, we have partnered with local schools to teach students about the world of health care. To learn more, click here.
