Patti Morales - St. Joseph Patient Story - Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare

The Little Things

Pattie Morales found herself on bed rest when an ultrasound at 20 weeks revealed she had placenta previa.

“The diagnosis came totally out of the blue,” she said. Her first pregnancy six years earlier had been uneventful.

With the placenta previa came frequent vaginal bleeds, and the 31-year-old mother spent the first six weeks of 2010 in the Prenatal Assessment Center at Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus until she delivered a health baby boy by C-section on Feb. 21.

Pattie says that while it was hard being away from her 6-year-old son Stewart, she couldn’t have imagined being cared for anywhere else. "The staff even threw me a baby shower,” she recalls.

“No one wants to land on bed rest, but everyone at St. Joseph was great,” she said. “The nurses were advocates for me, always keeping in mind my safety and also my comfort. They took time to get to know, me and they reminded me that this would ‘all be worth it’ in the end.”
