St. Joseph Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation Care Helps Restore Quality of Life
If you’ve suffered from an illness or injury that’s left you or a loved one unable to live independently, we can help. We offer both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to help improve quality of life.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Services
Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus’s inpatient rehabilitation program helps patients who have suffered severe illness or injury.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Centers (IRCs) serve patients who need to be in a hospital setting to receive physician and nursing care and who need therapy to help them recover from a significant change in their ability to manage everyday activities for themselves.
A stay in IRC offers a special opportunity to improve one’s strength and abilities to prepare for the most independent life possible.
Who we serve
Most of our patients have experienced a major illness or trauma and are looking to regain their independence. Among those we serve are individuals who have experienced these neurologic conditions:
- Stroke
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Non-traumatic spinal cord and brain injury
- Parkinson’s disease
- Other neuromuscular diseases and disorders
Our goal: help patients get back to the most independent life possible
You and your family will work hand in hand with your team of IRC staff to plan and set your goals for your IRC experience. Specially designed and individualized plans based on your needs will be developed to help you meet your goals.
We want to help our patients achieve independence and confidence in their improving skills. We work with patients to:
- improve walking, moving and transferring in and out of bed or chairs
- improve balance and increase strength
- maximize performance in daily activities such as dressing, bathing, grooming, eating and meal preparation
- improve communication skills such as speaking, following directions, reading and writing
- identify and treat feeding and swallowing concerns
- address memory and problem solving issues
- assist in managing medications
- develop skills for reentering the community through the use of music, bowling, dog-assisted therapy and interactive programs such as Wii™ game systems
