Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus pain management services include, but are not limited to:

  • Behavioral health
  • Cervical and lumbar radiofrequency lesioning – ablation procedures which “interrupt” the pain impulses of targeted nerves.
  • Alternative therapy treatments, such as biofeedback, acupuncture, and relaxation
  • Discography–cervical, thoracic, lumbar: a type of CT test to determine location of pain in these parts of the body.
  • Drug therapy
  • Epidural lysis of adhesions: a procedure which removes scar tissue from locations in or around the spine.
  • Epidural steroid injections:
  • Facet and medial branch blocks: injection of anesthesia and steroids in the spine (fact block) or near the spine (medial branch) in patients with back pain caused by arthritis in the factet joints or or mechanical low back pain.
  • Intra-Discal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET): used to treat low back or spine pain, an electrothermal catheter is placed fluroscopically near the inflamed disc. Heat is delivered through the catheter to the impacted area – which blocks pain receptors and alters composition of fibers causing pain.
  • Intrathecal pumps: delivers small doses of medication into spinal fluid
  • Joint injections–hip, knee, shoulder, sacroiliac
  • Lumbar decompressor and laser disk decompression: minimally invasive procedures for treating herniated lumbar disks
  • Lumbar nucleoplasty: procedure that may be used to address disk degeneration or rupture
  • Medical management
  • Nerve stimulation
  • Non-surgical ligament reconstruction
  • Percutaneous Lumbar Laser Discectomy: minimally invasive procedure to shrink and remove a herniated disk
  • Physical and occupational therapy
