St. Francis Hospital Celebrates 60 Years of Service

St. Francis Celebrates 60 Years in 2016The rich history of St. Francis Hospital started long before the bricks and mortar began to appear. It began 10 years earlier, in the 1940s, when a group of Felician Sisters and neighborhood residents went door to door soliciting donations after recognizing the need to build a hospital on Milwaukee's south side.

St. Francis Hospital opened its doors to its first patient on July 16, 1956. What started as a small hospital offering general surgeries, maternity care and emergency services quickly expanded to become a reputable, independent, full service hospital with high-quality care in multiple specialties.

Over the years St. Francis has grown to become a leader in stroke and neurological care, cardiac care, interventional radiology, obstetrics, emergency and critical care services, and mental health and addiction care. While services have grown, nursing excellence has always remained a cornerstone of all of the hospital's services.

Still today, rooted in its Mission, Vision and Values and its Catholic identity, St. Francis remains a strong community partner and good neighbor to the residents of Milwaukee's south side and plans to do for the next 60 years.
