Impacting the Lives of Every Patient

At Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – St. Francis, we strive to positively impact lives of every patient who walks through our doors. Our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, taught us to reach out to others—to console, to understand, to love, and to be compassionate.

Here are examples of how we follow in his path.

Su Salud Program

Breast cancer is the number one killer of Latina women in the United States. The Su Salud ("Your Health” in Spanish) bilingual prevention program educates Spanish-speaking Latinas in a culturally appropriate manner. The program pairs an RN breast care coordinator and a Hispanic lay health educator (or cultural companion) to give Latinas brief presentations on breast health.

Mother Angela Fund

The Mother Angela Fund provides emergency financial assistance for the medical needs of patients in crisis. Uninsured or low-income patients are identified by social workers for pharmaceutical, food, medical expenses or transportation assistance. Iis a safety net for patients with no other resources, particularly when being discharged from the hospital.

Baby Safe Sleep Program

The Baby Safe Sleep program gives new mothers information about safe sleeping, a "New Beginnings" book in either English or Spanish, and t-shirts and sleepers for their newborns that read "This Side Up."

On average, seven Pack-n-Play portable cribs are given to new parents each month. In addition, house-wide baby showers result in a generous supply of infant care items for the most vulnerable patients. We also participate in a program through the Christ Child Fund, which generously gives us layettes to present to new mothers.

Angel of Hope Clinic

We sponsor two nurse practitioners at the Angel of Hope Clinic, a free health clinic housed in the HOPE House, a homeless shelter on Milwaukee's south side. Routine visits and chronic condition management is provided through services such as well child checks, asthma maintenance and diabetes management. The clinic staff works to make a lasting impact on the lives of patients through education and resources that promote sustained health.
