Acupuncture for Cancer Patients

Acupuncture is another approach to providing comfort, care and relief from symptoms associated with cancer treatments. Watch this video to hear patient Beth Dowhen talk about how this type of treatment helped her feel better.

Types of Acupuncture Treatment

In addition to traditional acupuncture treatments, there are other methods of treating acupuncture points. These techniques provide different healing qualities, which can include tonifying, reducing, warming and unblocking. Massage and acupressure may also be utilized.

Cupping is usually performed as an accessory to acupuncture and is most helpful in cases of musculoskeletal pain. Using silicone cups, suction is created by applying pressure to the cup against the skin, and the therapeutic process begins. The suction facilitates the exodus of acid and toxins from the muscle layers. This process allows an environment for muscles to relax, detoxify and repair any damage. After treatment, the patient will likely have marks resembling a bruise.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a manual form of bodywork. A small smooth tool with oil or crème is used to apply pressure strokes to the skin in areas of musculoskeletal pain. It is used to withdraw toxins in deep and shallow muscle layers to facilitate the healing process. After treatment, the patient will likely have marks resembling a bruise or a rash but will feel wonderful relief.

Electro-stimulation is a form of acupuncture that uses electrical currents to stimulate acupoints and restore healing to your body. This form of electronic acupuncture is most commonly used with pain management and healing. It proves to be especially effective in treating musculoskeletal, trauma, back and shoulder pain. It can also help with conditions that involve the nerves, such as multiple sclerosis.

Moxibustion is the heated application of herbs (mug wart) at the acupuncture site, affecting Qi and blood to warm the channel or meridian of the body.

TDP Heat Lamp

TDP Heat Lamp technology brings infrared light with a mineral plate to provide the most therapeutic effects possible. This is used in the case of pain to stimulate circulation, edema, stress, inflammation, and to promote healing. TDP is an acronym for "Teding Diancibo Pu" which, loosely translated, means a special electromagnetic spectrum.
