Outpatient Counseling

Meeting Your Personal, Family & Relationship Needs

We know you’re busy, that’s why we offer the convenience of outpatient counseling on a variety of mental health and addiction issues. You, your family or friends will learn skills and receive the support needed to cope with such issues. After these skills are taught, we then help you use them at home, school, work and in the community.

Individual Therapy

Provided by advanced-level, knowledgeable and experienced therapists, individual therapy focuses on stress, anger management, depression, anxiety and panic disorders, childhood issues and attention deficit disorder.

Couples Therapy

Whether you’re in a relationship, are married or going through a divorce, our compassionate therapists will help you address problems and restore and heal your relationship.

Family Therapy

At Wheaton, we offer two family therapy programs specifically designed to address the unique recovery needs of family members.

  • Mental Health Issues – If your family is experiencing childhood issues, abuse, relationship problems, or parenting needs, our program will teach you skills needed to cope with these issues.
  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse – If you’ve been affected by another family member’s use of alcohol and/or drugs, our program will help you become aware of how you’ve been affected by the disease and how to get involved in your own personal recovery program.

Group Therapy

Our peer groups provide a supportive, educational and therapeutic environment for those with mental health conditions and addiction issues.

Supportive and theme-specific groups are available including stress management, coping skills, grief and loss, and Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) group.

For alcohol and/or drug addiction, our Continuing Care Program for substance use disorders is available. This group meets for 90 minutes a week for 24 weeks. The program builds upon primary treatment and continues to help clients build recovery skills that will help them in personal growth and recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Counseling

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides more structure and in-depth treatment compared to once-a-week visits, but it’s also less structured than an inpatient program. IOP may be recommended to help you cope with anxiety, depression, addiction or trauma. It also helps build basic recovery skills that will allow personal growth during and after the recovery process. Because substance use affects the person and all of his or her relationships, families and significant others are included in care, education and support.
