Clinical Research

Developing new treatments through clinical research is an important part of improving the quality-of-life for those who trust their healthcare to the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare (WFH) system. For this reason, WFH participates in cutting edge research and clinical trials in a broad range of therapeutic areas, including: heart and vascular disease, diabetes, infectious disease, oncology, neonatology, pediatrics, and urogynecology.

Clinical research is a keystone of WFH’s vision to reach the forefront of medical discovery. The Clinical Research Department provides a managed infrastructure for physicians and the community to participate in clinical research. Through clinical trials, physicians within the system can offer emerging treatments to patients who may have limited treatment options.

Today, the Clinical Research Department consists of Directors of Operations and Finance, a contract manager, seven clinical research coordinators, and a regulatory affairs assistant. Together, the staff supports the physicians (Principal Investigators and Sub-Investigators) who choose to participate in research studies – from start to finish. The main office for the department is on the 3rd floor at Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus, while the coordinators have offices located throughout the system.
