Vascular Care

Comprehensive Vascular Care Brought to You by Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group

The word vascular refers to the body's circulatory system - peripheral vascular involves all the blood vessels outside of the heart.  The arteries are the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the body's organs and extremities and the veins carry blood back to the heart.

Vascular disease is an often silent, chronic condition that affects more than millions of Americans.

  • Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) affects 8-12 million Americans, and over half of these individuals have no obvious symptoms. Patients with untreated PAD face a six times higher risk of heart attack, and a 40% increased chance of stroke. Learn about minimally invasive treatment.
  • An estimated 2.7 million Americans have an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). Approximately 15,000 of these patients will die each year from a rupture, making this the tenth leading cause of death in the United States.
  • Carotid artery disease is a leading cause of stroke. Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the United States, and affect more than 750,000 people a year.
  • Most people with high blood pressure have primary hypertension - with no underlying cause, but 10 percent have secondary hypertension.  One of those secondary hypertension causes can be attributed to renal artery stenosis.
