Breastfeeding can be one of life’s most beautiful experiences. In addition to providing nutrition for your baby, it can be a wonderful way for you and your child to bond. Wheaton Franciscan Baby Care supports and encourages breastfeeding and offers a variety of services for this special time.
All the care and support you need
Conveniently located within Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare hospitals, our breastfeeding centers offer a wide range of resources for breastfeeding mothers, their infants, and families.
Experienced and knowledgeable members of our breastfeeding team provide comprehensive education and support before and after your baby’s birth. In addition to sharing techniques and answering your questions, we take every measure to ensure that your breastfeeding experience is successful, including:
- Educating you about the benefits of breastfeeding – before and after your child is born.
- Helping you begin breastfeeding within the first hour of your baby’s life.
- Allowing you and your newborn to remain together 24 hours a day, if you wish.
- Encouraging breastfeeding according to cues.
- Showing you how to breastfeed and maintain lactation, even if you are separated from your baby; supporting you as you return to work or school while continuing to breastfeed.
- Providing individual counseling and outpatient consultations (depending on nature of outpatient visits, charges may apply).
- Offering parenting support groups that cover a variety of topics, including breastfeeding.
Expertise of board-certified lactation consultants
Wheaton Franciscan Baby Care’s Breastfeeding Resource Centers offer the services of board-certified lactation consultants. Our lactation consultants are obstetrical registered nurses with additional education and training in breastfeeding. They are wonderful resources for moms – offering expert advice on your questions and concerns throughout every stage of your breastfeeding experience.

Breastfeeding supplies
For your convenience, Wheaton Franciscan Breastfeeding Resource Centers sell a variety of breastfeeding supplies, including:
- Maternity and nursing bras
- Hand breast pumps
- Battery-operated breast pumps
- Electric breast pumps
- Disposable and reusable breast pads
- Breast shells
- Purified lanolin
- Supplemental Nursing Systems (SNS)
Your breastfeeding consultant will also provide you with instructions for any supplies that you may purchase from us.
Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare hospitals also offer electric breast pump rentals. Breast pumps are a valuable resource for mothers to start and maintain their breast milk supply.
