Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

The hands of surgery are changing at The Wisconsin Heart Hospital with the introduction of the da Vinci ® S surgical system, the most advanced robotic technology available anywhere in the world today for cardiac, prostate and many other surgical procedures.

By advancing existing surgical techniques and enhancing surgeons’ abilities, robotic-assisted surgery makes improvements to existing procedures and makes available those that otherwise could not be performed.

Patients benefit by experiencing

  • less pain
  • faster recovery times
  • shorter hospital stays
  • and a quicker return to normal activities

The da Vinci robot cannot make decisions or movements on its own; rather, it combines the skill of the surgeon with the precision of the robot to deliver more exact moves than possible through the human hand alone. With this new technology, even major surgeries can be performed through the smallest of incisions.

The Wisconsin Heart Hospital’s robotic surgical team is led by Husam H. Balkhy, MD, direct for our Center for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Balkhy and the team’s expertise has attracted patients from across the country.
