Emergency and Urgent Care

At Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, we bring the highest standards of emergency care to our community. Each of our hospitals offers an emergency team with a strong reputation for quality treatment, efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Board Certified Emergency Physicians
Each of our emergency departments is staffed with full time physicians who are all residency trained in emergency medicine and ABEM (American Board of Emergency Medicine) certified. A Chest Pain Accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers means that we are able to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack and better monitor patients to determine whether they are having a heart attack.

Some of our Emergency Services include:

Advanced Technologies
We use the most current technology for fast and effective treatment including a 64-slice CT scanner, a non-invasive tool to diagnose coronary artery disease.  The scanner is safer, more accurate and cost effective than stress testing and can eliminate the need for an invasive catheterization procedure.

Seeking Emergency Care:
If any of the following life-threatening conditions are present, call 911 immediately:

  • Chest pain lasting two minutes or more
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath

If the situation is not life-threatening, but still requires emergency medical treatment, you may choose to transport the patient to the hospital yourself.  Some examples of emergency situations may be:

  • Change in mental status (confusion, incoherence, listlessness)
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Sudden or severe pain
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness or change in vision

For those times when someone has non-life-threatening injuries that require non-emergent medical attention, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare -All Saints in Racine and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Franklin offer Walk-in Care.
