Cancer Care Support Services

We understand that individuals with a cancer diagnosis need more than the best clinical care. They require an enlightened, efficient and compassionate team of support care givers who can help them maintain maximum social function throughout treatment and recovery. This helps the patient - and their support network of family and friends - maintain control over their treatment, which is a critical part of the recovery process.

Explore Our Support Services

Our oncology social workers, patient navigator, nutrition counselors and spiritual service chaplains work closely with our expert oncologists, specially-trained certified oncology nurses and radiation therapists, to provide a total program of support that embraces each patient and family. We also offer a variety of groups that can offer emotional support to you and your family.

Spiritual Care

A cancer diagnosis presents not only physical challenges, but emotional and sometimes spiritual questions as well. Wheaton Franciscan Spiritual Services is committed to providing holistic care - for your mind, body and spirit. We recognize that excellent spiritual care is an important part of healing and well being for many. We serve all people, those who follow a particular faith tradition and those who do not. We value each person's unique spirituality. Chaplains are available to accompany patients as they journey toward healing and wholeness. Following are ways we can assist patient and family:

  • Caring presence and conversation

  • Helping you work through difficult decisions
  • Honoring ethnic/cultural spiritual needs
  • Mass and other worship services
  • Prayer for your well being
  • Sacramental ministry: Holy Communion, Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation
  • TV channel for reflection and meditation

Nutrition Counseling

With cancer, the body undergoes changes due to treatment as well as the disease, and must be nourished properly to remain strong. Our oncology dietitians are trained to understand this complex process, and provide nutrition assessments and counseling to our patients, working closely with our medical team to pinpoint opportunities for nutritional intervention and support.

Services include:

  • Dietary analysis and recommendations
  • Help to overcome the side effects of treatment
  • Information on foods to boost health and healing
  • Information and samples of nutritional supplements
  • Nutrition education for patients, families and caregivers
  • Plan of care for patients requiring tube feeding
  • Recommendations for vitamins, minerals and herbs
