Racine-Nursing

Nursing Staff: RN, LPN (both Travelers and per diem Agency staff)

Your orientation to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare will consist of self-study materials completed prior to your arrival, a classroom orientation and a department orientation on your first day of work. Expected outcomes include:

  • Nursing staff will feel comfortable and knowledgeable in the environment.
  • Basic competencies will be validated.
  • Regulatory standards will be met.

Our goal is that you will be able to meet the same high standards of behavior and patient care that are expected of our own associates.

Step One: Credentialing Checklist
Before working at a Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare facility, the Nursing Credentialing Checklist must be completed by the agency and faxed to the All Saints Staffing Office (262-687-5007), along with all supporting documents.

Step Two: Forms
Agency RN-LPN Orientation Checklist
Please print a copy of the RN/LPN Orientation Checklist. Review all items listed under Self-Study and check them off on the list. This list will be signed and dated after the classroom portion of orientation is completed.

Confidentiality Statement
Please print, review, and sign this document. Bring it along to the class.

The Journey
Please review the Expections for the Journey .
Please print, review and sign the Expectations for the Journey Commitment Statement. Bring it along on your first day of work to turn in to the manager or supervisor of the department you will be working.

Clinical Competencies
These forms must be completed during your first shift at a WFH facility, as described in Step Five. You can obtain a copy of these forms at the class or from the manager, supervisor, or charge nurse of the department where you are working.

Step Three: Self-Study
The online documents listed under Orientation Materials cover key information that you need to know before your first day at a Wheaton Franciscan facility. The topics correspond to items listed on the RN/LPN Orientation Checklist. Please review each document carefully before checking it off on the Orientation Checklist.

Step Four: Classroom Orientation
Depending on the shift that you are hired to work (8 hours vs. 12 hours), will determine your classroom/precepted orientation time. These classes will be scheduled on an as needed basis.

The Orientation Class/Precepted time will allow you to become familiar with some of the skills that require “hands-on.” These include restraints, Glucometer, IV pumps, enteral feeding pumps, PCA pumps, ADU (medication dispensing unit), code cart review, and our documentation system, as appropriate for your role.

You must complete the self study portion of the orientation prior to attending a classroom orientation. The content in the class builds on the self-study materials and you will not be able to participate effectively if you do not come prepared. Bring the completed, signed, and dated Orientation Checklist, Confidentiality Statement and Expectations for the Journey Commitment Statement with you to class.

Step Five: On-Site Department/Facility Orientation
(Your First Work Shift)

After you have completed the self-study and classroom portions of your orientation, you are eligible to work at a WFH facility. When you come to the unit for your first shift, you can expect to meet unit staff, tour the unit and find out some things that are specific to that unit.

When you are scheduled to work a shift, you should arrive one half hour early. During the shift, you must be signed off on Clinical Competencies. The competencies may be validated by the charge nurse or a designated preceptor. The completed forms should be given to the charge nurse where it will then be placed in your file.

Thank you for choosing Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare!

If you have any questions, please contact your agency, or the manager or supervisor of the department you will be working.
