Volunteer at Elmbrook Memorial

As a volunteer at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital you will feel appreciated and needed, meet many new people, learn new skills, have fun and much more.  Volunteers are individuals from all walks of life who are willing to devote time, knowledge and expertise to the service of others.  No special skills or experience is needed, just a desire to be of service and have enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to work under supervision.  Most volunteers give one four hour shift per week but some do more or less—we’re very flexible on schedules.  The minimum age requirement is 14 years old.

Volunteer Within a Department

Many of the hospital’s departments use volunteers for clerical duties and for a variety of other duties that support staff.  Some departments that benefit from volunteer assistance are:

  • Pavlic Center
  • Medical Staff Office
  • Pre-Admission Testing
  • Admitting
  • Radiology
  • Finance Office
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Center for Digestive Health

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Hospital Elder Life Program (H.E.L.P.)

Volunteers who assist with this program receive special training and work one on one (under the guidance of a Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist) with patients who are seventy years old or older.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is open daily as a service to patients, visitors and staff.  The revenues generated by the Gift Shop ultimately are returned to Elmbrook Memorial.  Volunteers assist with the duties involved in running a retail business.

Information Desk

Volunteers play a vital role at our main information desk.  They provide directional guidance, information in response to phone inquiries, record floral deliveries and on occasion escort visitors to their destinations.  (Must be at least 18 years old.)

Courtesy Car

The courtesy car drivers use the hospital’s vehicle to transport patients to and from the hospital.  Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.  There are two four hour shifts per day, Monday through Friday—8 a.m. until noon and noon until 4 p.m.

Eucharist Ministers/ Spiritual Care

These volunteers receive special training and work under the guidance of the hospital’s chaplain.  Each morning the Eucharistic ministers provide communion services to patients at their bedside.

General Errands

This provides a wide variety of activities.  Tasks may include delivering patient mail, meal trays, newspapers and flowers, transporting patients in wheelchairs, escorting visitors, in-house mail pick up and distribution, special projects and more.  If you like to walk and chat with people this is the perfect job.
