History

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Elmbrook Memorial has served the community since 1969, when it was founded to serve the growing communities of Elm Grove and Brookfield.

It replaced the well-regarded Misericordia Hospital in Milwaukee which, in 1908, the Misericordia Sisters had established as a small maternity hospital and home for unwed mothers. Thanks to the foresight and skill of the Misericordia Sisters, the hospital grew into progressively larger quarters over the years and was transferred to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare in 1984.

The Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - Elmbrook Memorial Foundation, originally knows as “The Friends of Elmbrook Memorial” has existed since the mid 1990s and has provided some of the funding for many of the large expansion projects in the past decade.
