What is Neuropsychology?
Neuropsychology is the study of how the brain works at its most sophisticated level: the level of behavior.
Dr. Michelle Braun, PhD, specializes in neuropsychological assessment, geriatric psychological assessment and treatment, and assessment of competency/decision-making capacity.
What is “Neuropsychological Assessment”?
A neuropsychological assessment is like putting the brain on a “road test” to assess everyday functioning and statistically measure skills such as memory and attention. Test data is combined with information from several sources (clinical interview, MRI, EEG) to provide diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment recommendations. A neuropsychological assessment is unique in that it provides a measure of the real-world impact of any type of cognitive problem, as well as integrated treatment recommendations to enhance medical and emotional functioning and improve quality of life. Neuropsychological assessment is particularly helpful in providing care for patients with memory disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, head injury, developmental disorders, metabolic abnormalities, and any neurological, medical, or psychiatric condition that impacts thinking skills.
