Inpatient Rehabilitation Program

While in the hospital, you are introduced to low-level exercise that steadily progresses until you return home. The Heart Health and Rehabilitation team blends this physical regimen with health information, counseling and support, and discharge planning.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Program

While exercising at your own pace on an outpatient basis, All Saints Heart Health and Rehabilitation team members monitor your progress and provide suggestions to improve recovery. This guidance and supervision is coupled with a variety of lifestyle-change classes.

Adult Fitness Program

For patients who want to continue in a supervised environment following the completion of their outpatient program, heart nurses and exercise physiologists plan individualized programs for patients to follow. This program offers a variety of hours to meet the needs of those who are working and retired.

With a physician’s referral, patients with no history of heart issues but with possible risk factors can utilize the Adult Fitness Program to assist with meeting their health maintenance goals. In addition, patients with vascular diseases, diabetes and other health problems can be referred to the department for a more systematic approach to exercise based on specific protocols and education.

What is Valvular Heart Disease?

In valvular heart disease, a valve does not open or close properly. When this happens, the heart has to work harder to pump the blood out to the body. This will result in complications to the heart including enlargement of the heart muscle, symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue and lightheadedness. Learn more about valvular heart disease.

Always notify your dentist or doctor that you have an implanted heart valve.

Bypass Surgery or “Beating Heart Surgery”

Heart bypass surgery is performed as a treatment for coronary artery disease. The goal of cardiac bypass surgery is to restore adequate blood flow, eliminate symptoms of ischemia (lack of oxygen) to the heart and improve the quality of life for the patient and their family.

Designated Heart Care Specialty Center

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints and Wheaton Franciscan Heart Care - All Saints Cardiovascular Institute has received the noteworthy designation of UnitedHealth Premium designated heart specialty center.

UnitedHealthcare has developed the UnitedHealth Premium designation program to provide its enrollees with information about and access to heart hospitals meeting quality criteria. This detailed information regarding specialized training, practice capabilities and proficiencies is designed to assist enrollees in making informed decisions about heart care.

“All hospitals are not the same. Where you go makes a difference in the type and quality of the care you receive,” said Lewis Sandy, M.D., executive vice president of clinical strategies at UnitedHealthcare. “Patients who require heart care need to know that they are getting the best treatment. These centers have been selected from hospitals in our network using criteria built on nationally recognized medical standards and expert independent physician advice. It is a distinct honor to be chosen as a UnitedHealth Premium designated heart specialty center.”

To receive this distinguished designation, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints had to apply and meet UnitedHealthcare’s extensive evidence and consensus-based quality and efficiency criteria. The criteria were developed with input from a panel of nationally recognized cardiac experts and based on guidelines set by the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Thoracic Surgeons, the Hearth Rhythm Society and the Leapfrog Group, a coalition of more than 150 public and private organizations that provide health care benefits.

The criteria include:

  • Breadth of Care
  • Depth of Care
  • Emergency Care
  • Staff
  • Quality and Data Management

The program also measures hospital efficiency and makes comparisons to the expected or “average” cost for care among other hospitals in the local area based upon UnitedHealthcare claims data.

The UnitedHealth Premium Designation Program will help consumers recognize that All Saints in Racine is a leader in cardiac care within the community.
