Active Lifestyle Challenge
Obesity affects more than 16 percent of American children and continues to increase at an alarming rate. It’s a growing public health concern both nationally and locally. A healthy diet and regular exercise can help kids establish positive health habits, improve school performance and prevent diseases.
Our Program
Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints offers an eight-week educational and training program called the Active Lifestyle Challenge for children ages 5-15 who are concerned about their weight. Nutrition, exercise and mental health professionals empower kids and their families to become physically active and adopt healthy eating habits.
How All Saints Active Lifestyle Challenge Works
- A physician referral is suggested based on Body Mass Index (BMI).
- Age groupings are ages 5-9 and 10-15.
- Emphasizes nutrition, physical activity and psychosocial aspects of weight management.
- Pre-screenings determine existing health conditions, current food intake, level of activity and attitudes of self and body.
- Parent/guardian involvement is required to improve overall family health.
- The program features small groups of up to 20 kids.
- Graduates of the All Saints Active Lifestyle Challenge can join the All Saints Kids Club, a free ongoing support group for graduates of the program. Kids will take part in fun and interesting activities to support healthy eating habits and physical activity year-round.
