Here's how to apply for a health insurance plan or renew coverage for 2016:

If You Are Currently Uninsured

Are you currently uninsured or have you recently lost your health insurance coverage? You may be eligible to apply for commercial health insurance or you may be eligible for Wisconsin's Medicaid program, BadgerCare Plus.

Most people under age 65 are now required to get health insurance through their employer, through Medicaid or through the Health Insurance Marketplace. If you do not have insurance, you can find out if you are eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan by visiting the Marketplace online or by calling 1-800-318-2596.

There is a new way to find a quality health insurance plan that fits your needs and your budget through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

  1. Low cost and free plans are available, and financial help is available, based on how much money you make.
  2. No one can be turned down because of a pre-existing condition like diabetes, asthma, or mental illness.
  3. All insurance plans will cover doctor visits, hospitalizations, mother and baby care, emergency room visits, and prescriptions.
  4. All plans will show costs and what is covered in simple language with ‘no fine print.’

If you would like to enroll in a health insurance plan, you should bring along some important information for each member of your family that needs health insurance:

  • Social Security Numbers or document numbers for legal immigrants
  • Employer and income information including pay stubs or W-2 forms for every member of your household who needs coverage
  • Policy numbers for any current health insurance plans covering members of your household
