Volunteering

Volunteering at Elmbrook Memorial Campus

As a volunteer at Wheaton Franciscan – Elmbrook Memorial Campus, no special skills or experience are needed. All you need is a desire to be of service, the enthusiasm to share your unique skills, and a willingness to bring your talents to a health care setting. We welcome you to our facility.

If you would like a volunteer application packet or more information, contact our Volunteer Services Department at (262) 785-2062. We have volunteer opportunities for both Adult and Junior Volunteers.

How you can help
If you can commit to one four-hour shift per week, with at least a six month commitment, we will find a volunteering opportunity for you. There are two four-hour shifts per day, Monday through Friday: 8 am – noon and noon – 4 pm. Weekend hours are also available. If you’d like to work more or less, let us know – we’re very flexible with schedules. The minimum age requirement is 14 years old with one year of high school completed.

Using your special skills

We’ll match your skills with the area of greatest need. Some departments that benefit from volunteer assistance are:

  • General errands/hospital wide
  • Pavlic Center (women’s health services)
  • Medical staff office
  • Pre-admission testing
  • Admitting
  • Radiology
  • Surgery
  • Center for Digestive Health
  • Franciscan Woods, a subacute care facility on the Elmbrook Memorial Campus

At Elmbrook Memorial, some services are provided solely by volunteers.

Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)
Volunteers receive special training and work one-on-one (under the guidance of a Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist) with patients who are 70 years old or older.

Gift shop
The hospital gift shop is open daily and volunteers help in all aspects of running this small retail business. Revenues from the gift shop ultimately are returned to Elmbrook Memorial.

Information desk
Volunteers give directions, answer phone inquiries, record floral deliveries, and, on occasion, escort visitors to their destinations. You must be at least 18 years old.

Courtesy car driver
Using a hospital-provided vehicle, volunteer drivers transport patients to and from the hospital. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Eucharist ministers/spiritual care
Volunteers receive special training and work under the guidance of the hospital’s chaplain. Each morning, the Eucharistic ministers provide communion services to patients at their bedside.
