What is therapy?
Therapy services generally include physical therapy (whole body), occupational (upper extremities and daily life functions) and/or speech therapy (voice and language). A physician’s referral is required for rehabilitation treatment and he/she will decide which therapy is best for you. Your therapists will work very closely with your referring physician to chart your progress and develop a personalized treatment plan.

At Elmbrook Memorial Campus, rehabilitation services are available for short term inpatient care, comprehensive inpatient care and for outpatient treatment.

• Inpatient Care (short term)– If you are hospitalized for a cardiac, orthopedic, medical/post-surgical, neurological or other medical reasons your physician may order rehabilitation to aid in your recovery and prepare you for a safe discharge. These in-room or in-hospital services are provided by physical and/or occupational therapists and are scheduled and performed during your inpatient stay.
• Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation - In some instances, patients recovering from illness or disease may benefit from an extended hospital stay with a more intense therapy program. Elmbrook Memorial’s comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is designed to allow patients to take the time necessary to become safe and functional within a specially designed hospital setting.
• Outpatient Rehabilitation –Your physician may order a series of rehabilitation visits to help you gain strength, safety, endurance or aid in your recovery. Physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation services are offered at outpatient sites close to Elmbrook Memorial Campus and throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Each site offers advanced equipment, technologies and rehabilitation experts to personally evaluate, treat and lead you through your recovery.
