Emergency care
Emergency medical care is appropriate for illnesses and injuries that are life threatening and require immediate care. (See a list of conditions appropriate for Emergency care ) Our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the event of a life threatening situation, call 911 immediately.

Urgent Care services
Urgent Care services are performed within the Emergency Department and may be appropriate for non-life threatening illnesses or injuries that require timely care. (See a list of common conditions that are appropriate for Urgent Care ) Urgent Care services are available from 7am to 3 am, 7 days a week including all holidays.

As some true emergencies present with relatively minor symptoms, the emergency physician is solely responsible for determining if your visit will qualify for Urgent Care service or require Emergency care.

To assist in your or your loved one’s treatment, it’s helpful to bring all current medicines or a list of current medications, prescribed dosages and time of dosage, if possible.

Efficiency and Patient Care
At Elmbrook Memorial, 85% of emergency treatment is initiated within 5 minutes of arrival. What makes this possible is a combination of our:

  • unique registration process
  • triaging system
  • state-of-the-art patient tracking
  • immediate access to support services
  • high degree of teamwork

Elmbrook Memorial is located within minutes of most cities and towns in eastern Waukesha County and offers convenient, easily accessible and free parking. Additionally, our ED is consistently ranked above the national benchmarks established for patient care.

Accredited Chest Pain Center
Wheaton Franciscan Elmbrook Memorial is an accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). We are committed to evaluating every patient who arrives with chest pain and beginning treatment within 90 minutes or less, to reduce damage to the heart. The most important step to take if you or a loved one is experiencing signs of a heart attack is to get to the CLOSEST emergency department as quickly as possible. After stabilization, if cardiac intervention is required, patients will be transferred to our sister hospital, The Wisconsin Heart Hospital.

The SCPC seal of accreditation is an important distinction among Chest Pain Centers because it certifies that the center and its staff are totally prepared to care for patients with heart attack symptoms. Successful treatment of heart attacks is time dependent and must be initiated rapidly.
