Our Mission, Values & Goals

Our Mission, Vision and Values guide everything we do at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, part of Ascension. They are foundational to our work to transform healthcare and express our priorities when providing care and services, particularly to those most in need.

Mission

Rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer, we commit ourselves to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. Our Catholic health ministry is dedicated to spiritually-centered, holistic care which sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities. We are advocates for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words.

Vision

We envision a strong, vibrant Catholic health ministry in the United States which will lead to the transformation of healthcare. We will ensure service that is committed to health and well-being for our communities and that responds to the needs of individuals throughout the life cycle. We will expand the role of laity, in both leadership and sponsorship, to ensure a Catholic health ministry in the future.

School of Radiologic Technology Mission Statement

The School of Radiologic Technology at Wheaton Franciscan - St. Joseph Campus, part of Ascension is dedicated to educating and developing students to their individual potentials so they may perform cognitively, technically, effectively, and with problem solving skills necessary to practice as a competent Radiographer with confidence and personal satisfaction in accordance with Ascension's mission, vision and values.

Program Goals & Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: The student will be clinically competent.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate proper patient positioning.
  • Students will use proper radiation protection in the clinical area.

Goal 2: The student will be able to communicate effectively.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients.
  • Students will modify communication skills to age appropriateness.
  • Students will demonstrate appropriate communication skills with members of the medical team.

Goal 3: The student will use critical thinking and problem solving skills in the clinical environment.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will adapt routines for trauma/critically ill patients.
  • Students will manipulate technical factors for non-routine examinations.

Goal 4: The student will participate in professional growth and development.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students in the second year will participate in the WAERT/WSRT educational symposium.
  • Students will adhere to all aspects of Affected Domain: uniform/appearance, punctuality, evaluation and professional development/continuing education.
  • The value of Service of the Poor. Seek out an opportunity each year to contribute resources of time, services or money to help those in need.

Goal 5: The program will be effective.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will pass the ARRT national certification on the first attempt.
  • Of those pursing employment, students will be gainfully employed within 12 months post-graduation.
  • Students will complete the program within 24 months.
  • Students will be satisfied with their education.
  • Employers will be satisfied with the graduate’s performance.
