The Electronic Health Record is Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s key strategy to improve Clinical Quality, making patient care safer and more effective.
The goal: Implement the EHR to promote best practices, enhance patient safety and improve clinical decision-making through the availability of dependable, accurate, timely, and actionable clinical information incorporating best practices.
What is it?
The Electronic Health Record is a collection of software used by physicians and other clinicians to create the legal patient medical record, to be viewed via computer on a secure password-protected site.
It will capture transmit, receive, store, retrieve, link and manipulate patient information.
A paper chart will still be used for certain documents like the surgical permit and admissions forms that require a patient’s signature. Within approximately 48 hours of discharge, these documents will be scanned electronically, making them part of the legal medical record.
The EHR provides the tools to improve clinical quality and reduce the risk of medical errors such as electronic ordering, bar-coded patient and medication identification.
