Sleep Disorders

Common sleep disorders are evaluated and treated at the All Saints Sleep Medicine Center.

The All Saints Sleep Medicine Center can evaluate and treat several common sleep disorders, including:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea – Heavy snoring narrows the airway, causing apnea or breath stoppage when the airflow is blocked. People with this disorder actually stop breathing while sleeping, from periods of ten seconds up to several minutes. This may happen as many as 600 times each night.
  • Insomnia – Consistent trouble falling asleep or staying asleep during the night or waking too early in the morning.
  • Narcolepsy – Difficulty staying awake, often leading to chronic sleepiness and falling asleep inappropriately.
  • Restless Leg Syndrome – Involuntary leg movements that awaken a person at intervals during the night, preventing a good night’s sleep. A sleep study may be the only way to detect this disorder, since the patient is typically unaware of these leg movements during waking hours.
  • Sleepwalking –Walking or other activity while still asleep including sitting up, talking, walking around or complex activities such as moving furniture, going to the bathroom, dressing and undressing, etc. Episode can be very brief (a few seconds or minutes) or can last for 30 minutes or longer.
  • Night Terrors –Waking usually accompanied by gasping, moaning, or screaming. It is often impossible to fully awaken the person, and after the episode the subject normally settles back to sleep without waking.
