Lipidology

The Lipid Roadmap

The management of your cholesterol issues and related health concerns is not a quick fix – it is an ongoing, gradual process that involves lifestyle changes, new habits, and regular monitoring. Here are some of the steps you may encounter throughout your personalized treatment plan.

Evaluation and Risk Assessment
The first step in your journey will be an appointment with Dr. Kaye-Eileen Willard, a physician who is board certified in internal medicine and lipidology. She will get a complete picture of your lipid health status:

  • a physical exam;
  • a cholesterol profile;
  • additional tests as appropriate;
  • medical history, and
  • family history.

Lab Tests
You generally will be directed to our Atrium Lab to schedule any lab tests.
3811 Spring Street
Racine, WI 53405
(262) 687-6620
6:00 am–6:00 pm Weekdays
6:00 am– 3:00 pm Saturday
Your lab results will be returned to the Lipidology Clinic for review.

Office Visit
The Lipidology Clinic team will review all of your health information and you will be called to schedule an Office Visit.

At the Office Visit, you will meet with a Nurse Practitioner (NP) who will go over your test results and what they mean. She will also discuss your diagnosis, including current health problems caused by cholesterol and your risk for future problems.

She will then review your personalized treatment plan, which might include any or all of the following:

  • medication
  • outpatient procedures
  • therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC)
    • diet and nutrition
    • exercise
  • smoking cessation
  • surgery

Evaluating Your Progress
From this point on, we will monitor how you are doing with your treatment plan. Follow-up
visits will be with the physician or the nurse practitioners to address specific issues:

  • lab results;
  • medications; and
  • therapeutic lifestyle changes.

The goal of the Lipidology Clinic is to help you understand your cholesterol health and the conditions or risks with which it is associated. We teach you how to make the lifestyle changes that will have a positive impact on your health, and we monitor that plan with you to be sure it is working.

Our whole team wants to keep you healthy and active, doing the things you want to do. We look forward to taking this journey with you.

The Lipidology Clinic Approach

Your team supports you
As we go through this process with you, you can expect us to meet your needs as a team.

Our team approach begins when the nurse schedules your initial consult. At your visit, our medical office assistants will show you to an exam room, where your blood pressure, waist circumference, weight, and body mass index (BMI) will be taken. After each visit, you will be scheduled for the next appointment so that you don’t have to call back.

Depending upon the nature of your visit, you will be seen by a nurse practitioner or the physician. Your visit will be an opportunity to address any questions or concerns you might have.

Our team works together to assess your condition and monitor your improvement. We personalize your treatment plan, including medications and necessary lifestyle changes.

Throughout your journey, the nurse will be available by phone for questions and will coordinate your care.

An important part of your treatment team is your family or friends. We are happy to include them as appropriate in your treatment plan.

Our team also works very closely with other health care providers you might visit. We routinely communicate with your primary care provider as well as other providers upon request.

The Lipidology Clinic will also submit information to your insurance provider(s) as appropriate.
We accept most major insurance providers, including Medicaid and Medicare.

You have a big team of people supporting your care – primary care physicians, family and friends, and the Lipidology Team. We look forward to working together for your health success.
