Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Receives Funding From Susan G. Komen to Promote Breast Health in the Community

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Three Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare breast health care initiatives have again received grant funding from the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

  • Su Salud/Your Health is a bilingual prevention program educating Spanish-speaking Latinas in a culturally appropriate manner on breast health and prevention of breast cancer. Funded in part through a $52,157 grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure to the Foundation for St. Francis, the program pairs an RN breast care coordinator with a Hispanic lay health educator or cultural companion to give Latinas brief presentations on breast health. The Foundation also provides mammograms to women who cannot afford them.
  • Funded in part through a $66,671 grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure to the Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Foundation, the Phenomenal Women breast health program, works to educate low-income African American women about breast cancer and the importance of consistent breast health care. It also helps remove barriers to mammograms and clinical breast exams and provides navigation services to African American women to get mammograms.
  • The Greater Racine County Mammogram Coalition, funded in part through a $119,390 grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure, encourages and supports women as they receive their mammograms. Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints and the Parish Nurse and Bosom Buddies programs are members of the coalition.
