Elmbrook Memorial Performs First ‘Signature’ Custom Shoulder Replacement in Wisconsin

Dr. Jonathon Printz, orthopedic surgeon with Aspen Orthopedics, performed the first custom shoulder replacement in Wisconsin using a new technology known as a 'Signature' Custom Fit shoulder replacement at Wheaton Franciscan – Elmbrook Memorial Campus, 19333 W. North Avenue in Brookfield, WI.

Until recently, patients with painful, debilitating shoulder arthritis had limited options for repair or treatment due to lack of bony support in the shoulder area. However, with the introduction of this exciting new technology, shoulder replacements can be designed to fit each person’s specific anatomy. The "signature shoulder" from Biomet Orthopedics, LLC, a global leader in the manufacture of orthopedic and biotechnology products, is a custom fit shoulder replacement designed by using CT scanned images to directly match a patient’s anatomy. These images are sent to the company which in turn makes a custom anatomic guide for use during the surgery. This, in conjunction with minimally invasive surgery, offers several advantages including quicker recovery time, better outcomes with a greater range of motion and preservation of more bone and ligaments.
