Thursday, January 10, 2013 - Staying Healthy During Flu Season

As the number of flu cases in the Milwaukee area reaches high levels, many hospital emergency departments are experiencing greater patient volumes as well.

In a live broadcast from St. Francis with NBC’s TODAY Show, Dr. Kathy Shallow, Emergency Department physician, urged people of all ages (from six months on) to get a flu shot.

She emphasized the need to stay home and rest when flu symptoms arise. Reasons to visit the hospital include:
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dehydration
  • Generalized weakness
  • Co-existing conditions, such as emphysema, diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Flu shots are a very effective preventive measure. If you haven't had your flu shot yet, be sure to visit your primary care physician. If you need a doctor, visit our online physician directory to find one who's right for you.
